Overview:

This example has been in careful ownership for the past 7 years and presents a superb opportunity to own a truly sorted, rust-free British sports car.

Restoration & Mechanical:

In 2018, this TR4A underwent a full body-off, frame-up restoration, with over 50+ photos documenting the process available to the new owner. Every inch of the car was attended to — from the chassis and bodywork through to mechanicals and electrics.

  • Engine: 2.1L Inline 4-cylinder
  • Carburettors: Twin SU carb setup
  • Power: Approx. 104 bhp (factory)
  • Transmission: 4-speed manual W/Overdrive
  • Exhaust: Full stainless steel exhaust system fitted during restoration
  • Cooling: New radiator and hoses at time of rebuild – Plus 14 inch Electric fan
  • Electrics: Refurbished loom and lighting system

The engine was fully rebuilt during the restoration and has only 5,450 miles since. Starts and drives beautifully, with a strong pull, clean idle, and excellent oil pressure.

Chassis & Body:

  • Frame stripped, inspected, and refinished
  • All body panels realigned and repainted in factory-style cream/Old English White
  • Chrome bumpers re-polished or replaced
  • Wire wheels with fresh tyres
  • Rock solid underneath – no rust or rot

Interior & Trim:

  • Original-style black vinyl seats and door cards
  • Wood dashboard in excellent condition with original Smiths gauges
  • Clear, readable dials including RPM and MPH clocks
  • Moto-Lita style wooden steering wheel
  • Working side windows and convertible roof in excellent condition

Model History – Triumph TR4A:

The TR4A was introduced in 1965 as the successor to the popular TR4, with key improvements including independent rear suspension (IRS) for vastly improved ride and handling. The torquey 2.1L engine, paired with its light chassis and iconic styling, makes this a highly desirable 60s British sports car — especially in restored condition.
