Jeep Wrangler Sahara

Make – Jeep

Model – Wrangler Sahara

Year – 2001

Engine – 4.0-litre 190bhp straight-six

Mileage – 59,051

Introduced in 1996, the Jeep Wrangler TJ is the second generation of the popular Wrangler off-road sports utility vehicle. It reintroduced the more characteristic circular headlamps either side of the classic Jeep seven-slot grille but replaced the traditional leaf springs with modern coil-sprung suspension for better ride and handling. The TJ continued in production until 2006.

In Sahara trim, the TJ Wrangler came powered by a 4.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 190bhp and 235lb.ft of torque through either a 5-speed manual or a 3-speed automatic gearbox. It was also fitted with wider flared wheel arches and sills, full steel doors and optional oversized 30-inch wheel and tyre combinations.

This short-wheel-base UK-spec Jeep Wrangler Sahara hard-top convertible was first registered on 8 March 2001 and has the 3-speed auto ‘box.  It has three former keepers and a current mileage of just over 59,000.

The first owner, a gentleman from the south Essex area, kept the car until 2016. The last owner bought the Jeep in 2017 and had some underbody welding work done to get it through an MOT.

He removed the rear wheel carrier and fitted some custom bumpers – although the originals are retained with the vehicle. He was also planning on stripping out the interior to change the look but it would seem that he never got around to doing so as it still has its original (and unique to the Sahara) Camel and Forest Green colour scheme inside.

Once the 2017 MOT had expired, and the owner was still working on customisations, the Jeep was kept garaged and off the road for around two and a half years. Now recommissioned, recently serviced and a new Bosch battery and wiper motor fitted, this Jeep Wrangler Sahara is ready to find someone new to make it their own.

The exterior bodywork is fully black and appears in a good, straight condition with just one or two blemishes such as on the top of the bonnet above the scuttle (see photos). The black 15-inch wheels are fitted with matching 29-inch General Grabber AT2 all-terrain tyres – designed for equal performance on and off road.

Inside the Jeep, the original Sahara trim colours of Camel vinyl with Forest Green premium cloth seat facings present in a good condition, with no apparent damage or wear. A later Pioneer CD stereo with bluetooth has been fitted playing through the sound bar fitted to the roll hoop, also comes with the original “built in” sub woofer in the centre console.

The undersides of the Wrangler look in a pretty clean, undamaged condition suggesting that the vehicle has never been used for serious off road duties. The chassis structures, suspension and steering components all appear corrosion-free and wear some relatively recent black paint.

The Jeep comes with two keys and a fistful of invoices for servicing and maintenance from new. As you can see below, the original owner had the car diligently serviced almost annually regardless of miles driven.

This Jeep Wrangler Sahara TJ is in excellent condition and drives exactly as it should. Why not come and take a look, or give us a ring so we can show you around the vehicle on a video call. We have over 50 photos on our website and a walk round video too!

It would suit a variety of buyers and purposes; maybe someone looking to restore and preserve the stock bumpers and exterior look, or as the basis of additional customisation.

For customisers, the opportunities are almost limitless. The Wrangler Sahara’s torquey engine would give plenty of grunt as an expedition-style off-roader. Equally its rugged good looks and removable hard top would impress on the High Street or at the beach and its appearance could be further enhanced over time.

Whatever the purpose or plans you might have for this Wrangler Sahara, this is a genuine low mileage vehicle (validated by the service history), in great condition with a long MOT, Valid Until 10/12/2021
