1963 Studebaker Grand Turismo Hawk.
Very nice matching numbers Hawk with 85K original miles. 289 (4.7L) V8 has had carb rebuilt and runs beautifully. Borg warner gearbox shifts smoothly. Power steering provides effortless steering. New white side tires (ink spare). All front-end rubbers, shock absorbers, slave and master cylinder have been replaced. This example drives very straight and feels tight on the road.
Exterior paint has had one repaint in the early 80’s in the original Blue mist metallic. It does have flaws, but looks presentable. Body has some dents and imperfections but overall good condition. Bright work in good condition.
Interior is in good original condition. All instruments work like they should. (even clock).
In 1962 Brook Stevens completely revitalised the Studebaker Hawk with a sporty European inspired design. The car was exceptionally well received by the motor press and they dubbed it: The modern motor enthusiasts car. The Hawk was considered an upper middle class car as the base model cost more than a top of the line Chevrolet Impala. Although the GT Hawk was a well-received car, the fear of bankruptcy and lack of any real marketing kept sales figures relative low. 8.388 in 62. 4009 for 63 and 1484 for 64.
This is truly on of those under the radar gold nuggets ready to be enjoyed.
