The HZJ73 belongs to Toyota’s heavy duty 70 Series family. Introduced in 1984 as the successor to the legendary 40 Series, the 70 retained Toyota’s traditional working Land Cruiser character while introducing a more spacious cabin and improved everyday usability. It sat alongside the larger, more comfort orientated 60 and later 80 Series station wagons.

Within the range, the 73 is the medium wheelbase model, offering a useful balance between manageable proportions and interior space. Its distinctive FRP, or fibre reinforced plastic, hardtop gives it one of the most recognisable profiles in the Land Cruiser family.

Underneath is a separate ladder chassis with solid axles and leaf springs front and rear. Selectable four wheel drive and a low range transfer box provide the capability that has made these vehicles so respected around the world.

Power comes from Toyota’s renowned 1HZ 4.2 litre naturally aspirated straight six diesel.
